So Far, So Good… Now What?

Drawing on the history of Råneå’s shoe industry, the biennial invites audiences to rethink how we move through space—and at whose pace. The theme revolves around the concept of movement in its many meanings: to move, relocate, walk, move forward, or seek new paths, but also movement in its democratic and societal dimensions.
The exhibition and its public programme approach speed and distance as more than neutral conditions, as forces that shape our lives, conceal inequalities, and determine who moves ahead and who is left behind. How does movement shape us both individually and as a society, and how can we practice this together?
The title of the 2026 biennial, So Far, So Good… Now What?, mirrors a reflective yet forward-looking approach, in keeping with the grassroots, humorous, and free spirited of the biennial’s previous editions. Through a range of contemporary art practices — including installations, performance, film, workshops, and conversations — the biennial explores how movement shapes our relationships, our bodies, and our shared spaces. Works unfold both indoors and outdoors, across exhibition venues, public spaces, and everyday meeting places, opening up new ways of seeing Råneå and its surroundings.
Råneåbiennalen 2026 takes place from 29 August to 27 September and is curated by Ana Victoria Bruno, Sixten Liu, Kerstin Möller, Foteini Salvaridi and Anastasia Shestak, coordinated by regional art consultant Silvia Colombo. The project is organized by Råneå kulturförening with the support of Region Norrbotten, the Swedish Arts Council, Boden Municipality, and Swedavia, in cooperation with local and regional partners in Norrbotten, such as Filmpool Nord, Luleå Konsthall, and Kin – Museum of Contemporary Art.
Participating artists include, among others, Emma Bertuchoz with Yadin Akira Bernauer and Giuliana Gjorgjievski, artist collective coyote, Max My Ehnlund Göran, Kersley, Bouchra Khalili, Bernd Krauss, Lotta Lampa, Birgitta Linhart, Nordting, Elis Ottosson, Marta Romankiv, Jonas Staal, Ida Isak Westerberg with Eva Svaneblom and Tanja Andersson, and Tintin Wulia.
