The Collection

Perceiving the creation of a collection as a dynamic, open-ended exploration of narratives and an ongoing dialogue between different times and places, Irene Y. Panagopoulos commenced her collecting practice with selected works gifted to her by her father, Pericles Panagopoulos. From that point on, the body of the collection began to grow organically, gradually encompassing works by prominent artists from Greece and abroad.

Reflecting Irene Y. Panagopoulos’ life experiences and diverse influences from across the globe, as well as her commitment to discovering and supporting emerging artistic voices, the collection spans an impressive chronological range, from the 16th century to the present day. It includes artworks across all media, folk and applied arts objects, archival materials, books and cultural artefacts. As a whole, the collection traces and highlights the exchanges and intersections between East and West, placing particular emphasis on women artists, and creators from the Greek diaspora and the broader Mediterranean region.

Located in Voula, the Irene Y. Panagopoulos Collection (IYP Collection) is housed in a specially designed space that serves as a workspace, exhibition venue, archive, library and storage facility.
